the word Shalom meaning is for sure to be complete. According the BDB
lexicon explain its a verb and the first meaning is complete
The etymological dictionary written Rabbi Ernest Klein explain:

be complete,be finished, to be whole,be safe and peace. page 660 and 663
We Jews use this verb daily also to pay meshalem. in Israel

mt Benner is right Jerusalem is still not complete we have to build the
    third temple

Me as Jew love mr Benner his teachings and lessons

may he continue his blessed work I am happy we Jews having such christians
as friends I don’t understand the negative reactions from some people here
I study Hebrew 25 years and it its never boring.

    shalom legem

IS GOOD TO KNOW ANOTHER CULTURE SPECIALLY WHERE THE WORD OF GOD CAME FROM

  3. Mansour Al Faransy

This is perversion of the meaning of a word. Shalom have nothing to do with
“complete”, even if you dream of a mythic temple which will be never
rebuild over an holy place. “Shalam” means “provide the necessary”, and
this is like something we offer. Your dream lead you out of the meaning of
this word, like christians do with NT translation.

That phrase “pray for the peace of Israel” has always had me stumped
because of my thinking it referencing wars and enemies. This video has
light bulbs going off in my brain like crazy! Thanks!

  7. Jeff Benner

Yes, I agree and I really didn’t go into to much detail in the teaching.
Thanks for pointing that out Mencel.

  8. allinyadamnface2

No its NOT..Im a Hebrew because of Abraham and a Israelite because of
Jacob…So how is that Redundant ??? Abraham had other sons that are NOT
    Israelites…Israel is Jacob…

jeff benner, your books and teachings have been enormously helpful to me.
    peace and blessings to you.

  10. Jeff Benner

    I am self taught.

  11. Jeff Benner

Yes, I think “complete” really applies to the meaning of this word,
especially since the root can mean compensation – to restore back to
completion. But I am always looking for better English translations of
Hebrew words so if you have any suggestions on any of the words in my
    videos please let me know.

  12. Lypur

wow! how interesting. Your videos are always so interesting. It’s like you
bring words that you take for granted and bring them to life. Thanks for
    these videos!

@omoshiroidayo Anyone from a different culture sounds strange to one from
another culture. Anyone who dislikes the sound from another culture has a
very limited world view and should expand their horizons a bit. Do not
expect all people around the world to speak, act, write or think like you
    do.

  14. Jeff Benner

Shalom Lypur and thank you. I am glad you have finding them of instest.

  15. Mencel89

on a comment about Shalu Shalom Yerushalayim normally people talk about it
meaning may Jerusalem be absent of war. I personally also believe that when
we pray for the “peace” of Yerushalayim, we are also praying for the
    destruction of her enemies.

  16. imgodsservant

I’d like to know, where did you learn Hebrew?

  17. Tudung Senduk

I would say shalom means complete peace. Peace with oneself, with others
    and peace without wars.

  18. 1mayleen

I’D LIKE TO KNOW IF IT IS APPROPIATE TO USE THE WORD SHALOM FOR A
TAMBOURINE DANCE TEAM AS ITS NAME? AND HOW WOULD REPRESENT THE TEAM.

  19. Jeff Benner

    I like that 🙂

  20. allinyadamnface2

    Im a real Hebrew Israelite…Shalom

  21. Christian Täschler

    correct meanaing

  22. Jeff Benner

@1mayleen Sure, that would be acceptable.

  23. IWannabeJew

The closest approximation I was able to make was the modern notion of
“Success”, encompassing health, prosperity (including children) and peace.
“Complete” is better. “You complete me.” — Jerry Maguire

  24. academysounds

No, no, no. To understand wholeness you have to understand its opposite,
fragmentation of the being. Only healers and true prophets understand it
because they help others to become whole. Jeff did a good a video on the
meaning of the word Jerusalem. If Israel build a Jewish temple. The LORD
will destroy it again. The book of Revelation tells you there are no places
    of worship in New Jerusalem.
